The Digital Divide Institute (DDI)  is and organization that works towards closing this gap called the digital divide. Digital divide is a gap between people who can benefit from digital technology and those who cannot. Closing the Divide involves restructuring the telecommunications sectors in each nation so that broadband’s benefits can flow to the masses not just the rich areas. DDI wants the

establishment of “national broadband ecosystems” that are affordable, usable and empowering to users.

Both DDI and ITU

Both these organization are trying to close this digital divide. they are spreading these new technologies to make it easy for everybody to communicate not just some countries but all.

ITU  (International Telecommunication Union) is  United Nations specialized agency for information and communication technologies. Their job is to develop the technical standards that ensure networks and technologies seamlessly interconnect. they take part in development and improvement of telecommunication/ICT equipment and networks in developing countries.
ITU does many things that help us communicate such as:
  • people being able to make phone calls
  • coordinates the world’s satellites that bring us television,  GPS navigation,  weather information and online maps, and enabling communications in even the remotest parts of the planet.
  •  makes Internet access possible
  •  works with the industry to create new technologies
  • works with public and private sector partners to ensure that ICT access and services are affordable, equitable and universal.
DDI's main focus is on Asia. they work in Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Philippines, and Nepal.

ITU has a membership of 193 countries and over 700 private-sector entities and academic institutions. ITU is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, and has twelve regional and area offices around the world.
